Shor Puti Fish (সরপুঁটি মাছ)—botanically classified as Puntius sarana and widely referred to as the Olive Barb or Sarputi—is a highly cherished medium-sized freshwater fish native to the river networks, lakes, and flooded fields of Bangladesh and East India. While standard Puti fish are quite tiny (typically 2 to 3 inches), Shor Puti is a distinctly larger, premium variety that grows between 5 to 8 inches in length. It is celebrated for its shiny silvery-olive skin, an incredibly sweet flavor profile, and soft, oily meat that infuses rich depth into any gravy.
